Mark 5

Ferret Mark 5

Below are some pictures of a Mark 5 at the Bovington Museum in England.  I know of only two in existence.  The other is in private hands.

One main difference of the Mark 4 and Mark 5 Ferret are the notable big wheels, hence "Big Wheeled Ferret".   They both have strengthened suspension and larger wheels (11.00 x 20).   This allows the vehicle to carry heaver loads and gives improved performance over rough terrain.

The Mark 5 in the photo's is also located at the Bovington, Museum in England. The Mark 5 is equipped with a floatation screen which when used the vehicle can cross lakes and rivers.   The wheels propel it .

The heaviest of all the Ferrets, the Mark 5 has a modified turret that carries 4 Swingfire missiles and machine gun.   No longer in service, as it was intended  only as an interim vehicle pending the introduction of the FV438 and FV102 Striker.
